How it works

Moving puts the move on the stack. It shows as an arrow. Nothing on the board changes yet.
Your opponent can respond by spending their turn on a move of their own. It goes on top of the stack. Then you can respond to that, and so on.
Or let it resolve. The stack resolves from the top down: the last response first, the original move last. Then it's your normal turn.
Fizzle. When a move resolves, its piece must still be on its starting square and able to reach the target square (nothing in the way, not your own piece on it). If not, nothing happens.
Captures and moves are the same. A move goes through whether or not there is still something to take. If the target dodged, the piece just moves there. If an enemy piece moved onto the square, it gets taken.
Pawns stay legal. A straight pawn push fizzles if anything is now in front of it, and a diagonal pawn capture fizzles if there is nothing left to take.
Responses are chosen from the board as it is now, before anything on the stack happens.
One move per piece. A piece that already has a move on the stack can't be given another one until the stack resolves. Those pieces are dimmed.
Online. Create a game and send the invite link. No sign-in needed: the two browsers connect directly, so both players keep the page open while playing. Anyone else who opens the link watches.
No check rules. You may move into check, leave your king attacked, or castle through attacked squares. You win by capturing the king, and your opponent can respond to save it. There is no checkmate.
